The star opens up about his ex, Angelina; his most mortifying romantic moment, and the dating rule he thinks all guys should know.

In School for Scoundrels, you play Dr. P, a suavely underhanded guy who teaches guys how to get women. Got any great dating advice from your own life? |
Girls are pretty smart. They don’t buy it if it’s not real. People always ask me if I have any good pick-up lines. I don’t know. I think if you have a sense of humor and be yourself—if they like you, they like you, and if they don’t, they don’t. Women have this kind of weird intuition anyway. |
Are you a smooth operator in your own romantic relationships? |
No I am a mess! I’m nervous and paranoid and not always confident. Well, I am confident about meeting and dating women—just not in relationships. I get claustrophobic… |
What have you done to impress a girl? |
Not much. I haven’t believed in that anyway. I live pretty normally; I have one house, one car, I don’t have a lot of stuff. I was never the kind of guy to drive a Porsche. I don’t think I’ve worn a suit in years other than in a movie or at a wedding. When I got married the last couple of times, I didn’t even wear a suit then! |
Are you and your ex, Angelina Jolie, still friends? |
Absolutely. But the press always wants to put some negative spin on us and try to dirty our friendship, which is very clean. I’ve had two or three relationships in my life that were public and I’ve never said a word about anybody. In a couple of those relationships I got talked about in a huge way—and I chose to not say anything. It doesn’t do anybody any good. Sometimes you suffer for it. If you don’t defend yourself, then somebody at Kmart in Iowa reads this and all they have to go on is that. But I’d rather do it that way. |
Have you had any embarrassing moments with women? |
Definitely! You know what a girl did one time?! (I don’t want to tell one about myself!) We were at a restaurant and she was eating some bread. She was talking and a wad of the bread in her mouth went into my iced tea! I was really thirsty and wanted my drink, but she acted like nothing had happened. I couldn’t say to the waiter, ‘Hey she just popped up some bread and it got in my ice tea, can you bring me another one?’ |

What the craziest thing you’ve ever done for love? |
 Get married probably! |
