What Is The Biggest Misconception You Had Regarding Astrology Before You Really Got Into It?

I remember when I was 11 or 12, before I really knew much about the true workings of astrology, I was somewhat under the impression that water signs were more… thoughtful than other signs. Obviously I realise now that the underlying emotional qualities associated with water signs do not necessarily equate to an over-active mind or thoughtfulness.
What about you? What impressions did you have about astrology that you came to understand to be incorrect?
Signs, if you like?

  1. I thought it was a superficial categorizing game that people played in order to self-indulge.
I still do in a way, because it VERY much applies to people who stick to sun signs only. I have NOTHING but contempt for these people who crowd this part of Y!A.
The only thing that got me looking in to it was at 17 when I was depressed about not knowing who I really was, every identity I had felt borrowed (Neptune in 1st house)

  2. Tricia C says:

    Aquarius was a water sign.
Scorpio (a creature of the desert) was something other than water but not sure what.
My mother always told everyone my brother was a Leo. When I learned how to calculate charts I discovered he is a Virgo. (Aug 23)
I was embarrassed by the Sign name Cancer. I used to say “I was born the middle of July”. I got over this hang-up when I understood astrology more.

  3. MonaLisa says:

Well just because i was born in July and a lot of people in my family were born in July and they are cancers I thought I was a cancer until i was like 12. I swear my family used to say I was a cancer! And I thought fire signs were loud, earth signs were boring, and water signs were weird.

To be honest - I used to think horoscopes were just for fun and you really couldn’t get or learn anything more from it than just for fun…..I used to think it was something thought/made up just for those people who could easily buy into nonsense - profit game. I know better now! :)

  5. Well, i used to think that it was all a load of rubbish, completely unscientific, for people who need to get out more…
    Wait. I still do.
    Hmmmm

  6. I used to think…..
    Earth signs were boring.
    Air signs were a flake.
    Water signs too emotional.
Fire signs were full of it.

  7. Whisper says:

I used to think that the air signs didn’t “feel” (emotionally) as much as the other elements.
    Virgo Sun
    Sagittarius Moon and Rising

  8. Pretty (Rudegirl) says:

That Aries was an Air sign. I use to tell everyone that, and there were more Air signs then any other element. Until someone more fluent in Astrology called me out, i was really embarassed lol.

  9. Wicked™ says:

I thought certain signs or more powerful than others, I thought Cancers and Pisces were pointless and oh yeah, I didn’t know there was a whole chart involved.
    Gemini

  10. Wiseman says:

I generally stereotype all Cancer females as whores. Then one grew up.

  11. That they made fire signs look the best

  12. ~JaguarM says:

I used to think that horoscopes were a load of garbage based on the fact mine never fit me.That and sun sign compatability/incompatability never fit my own experiences. When I redescovered it and got into my natal chart, everything fell into place.Finially I had an explanations for all the traits and quailites, that I as a virgo sun ‘wasn’t’ suppossed to posses.I suppose the biggest thing was realising that one’s sun sign was only part ofthe puzzle, not the be all and end all like I’ve read for years ‘as fact’.
