Q&A With… Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
By Susan L. Hornik

In Southland Tales, your character has an impressive dating life—Mandy Moore plays your wife, but you don’t remember her because of your amnesia. And Sarah Michelle Gellar is your reality/porn star/television host girlfriend! Plus there are others along the way! How did it feel to have four women in one film lusting after you?!

Oh boy! Are you kidding me?! I’m a lucky man! When I saw the script, I thought it was great—something I had never read before. I was thoroughly intrigued by the challenge!

Did you draw at all from personal experience?!

No, can’t say I have! Especially that scene on the beach, when that passionate fan of mine was propositioning me!

That was really funny, too—so many of my fans were watching us film that scene. I could see people — families and children — behind her all lined up, excited to be a part of the scene. And then she says what she says (it’s risqué so I won’t repeat it here!), and the look on their faces was priceless! And then she has to repeat the line again! I could see they were thinking, ‘I think maybe it’s time to go!’ I told the director, ‘I think we should get this done quickly—in one take!’ It was a little inappropriate!

You had great chemistry with all of the ladies. Can you comment on that?!

I was very fortunate! I thought Sarah Michelle Gellar was great in that role—she’s definitely not the first choice when you think of an entrepreneurial porn star so that was so much fun for her to get that role! And I loved working with my other co-stars, Mandy Moore and actress Bai Ling (ABC’s Lost), too!

So who’s the better kisser, Sarah or Mandy?!

They both were! How lucky was I to be able to do that?! They were all great kissers!

And even luckier, you got to do that very sexy dance sequence with both Mandy and Sarah! What was that like for you?!

It was so great! Long hours though! And we did a half-day of dance rehearsals—it was definitely so much fun! It was a way we could creatively express ourselves in what was happening around us. Everyone was very open to seeing what could happen in the scene.

Did you, Mandy and Sarah do any off-camera prep work so you could be ready for those ‘He’s my man! Lay off him!’ scenes!?

I went to them and said, “I think it would be a good idea if we made out a couple of times! Not all at the same time, one at a time!” But unfortunately, they didn’t think it was a good idea!

You have so many tattoos! Do you think they are sexy?

Oh yeah, definitely! I even added a few just for this film! The director loved them and wanted me to get more. It’s just that it took three hours to put them on!

Are you OK with those full body shots of you, where you are only wearing underwear?!

If it makes sense in the scene, then yes. In that scene, I was home and getting ready to go to bed, so it was fine for me! I’m used to people looking at me from my wrestling days!
