Q&A With… Ellen Pompeo
By Susan L. Hornik

On ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, you have such great chemistry with your very sexy co-star, Patrick Dempsey. What do you think makes him so attractive to women?!

I think his wife makes him great. I’m a big fan of hers, I think she is really sexy and gorgeous! Behind every good man, there’s a good woman, so we can’t forget that! But Patrick is great. He’s got great eyes, and he’s just really manly and rough and rugged!

What’s the best thing about your romantic scenes together?

I love our scenes, as I do with everyone. It’s a great job! We are paid ridiculous amounts of money to just have fun. I feel very blessed! I am lucky to have them — and Patrick! — in my life!

You were with your husband (music executive Chris Ivery) for a long time before you got engaged. And then you took your time getting married. Tell us about that.

I didn’t want to plan it, I wanted something more organic. To me a wedding is a piece of paper; I didn’t think it was going to change how we felt about each other. Every day is a wedding day when I wake up with him. We just have something so special. I didn’t need a big dress or 400 people there to declare my love. I think we declare it every day to each other. That’s just our way; it’s different for different people.

What do you think is the secret to a successful love relationship?

I think the secret to a great relationship is to know that no one is perfect—nor is every day perfect. He’s not perfect, nor am I. You are going to have good days and bad. There’s no such thing as anything perfect. There’s no Hollywood fairy tale. It doesn’t exist.
