Q&A With… Last Comic Standing Host
By Susan L. Hornik

You are hosting the NBC reality series Last Comic Standing. Do you think that women are attracted to funny men?

I think so. Women love humor. Most women don’t get the chance to laugh the way they want to, so a funny guy is a plus.

Do you think if a guy is not conventionally attractive but is funny (like a Woody Allen), he’ll still get interest from the ladies?

Well, they may not look at him at first if he’s not particularly good-looking. But if he gets the opportunity to show off his personality, you know, get a couple of jokes in, etc., then anything could happen!

What have you learned about romantic relationships overall?

I think a relationship really needs a “give and take.” It’s really important to communicate so that everyone knows what’s going on. Even just to say what you both want to do during dates is helpful. And of course, lots of physical intimacy can be great for the relationship, too!

What advice would you give guys when they are on a date?

I would say to be aware of a women’s face and see how she is reacting to you. You don’t want to come across as a stalker—just try to relax a little. Get to know her slowly. And if you are looking to talk to a woman at a nightclub or bar, start with a “Hello, how are you?” Keep it light. If you don’t hear, “What do you want and why are you bothering me?” come out of her mouth, you’ve probably got it made!

Also, be honest—tell her you’d like to get to know her. Honesty never hurts as long as you are subtle! Not a “Do you see me in your future?” kind of thing. You don’t want to come off like a player!

How long have you known your wife?

We will have been married six years this month. In Hollywood, that’s a long time!

Definitely! What do you think is the secret to a good relationship?

Being patient and listening a lot. And really knowing how to compromise. Relationships can’t all go his or her way—it’s got to be a balance for it to work. And also respecting each other’s space; there are times when you want to be together and times when you want to be alone. So really understanding that is key. Our relationship is always a work in progress.

And role play doesn’t hurt either!

What advice would you give women?

Well, you know, guys have big egos. It would be nice if a woman could always try to make a guy feel like he is worth a million dollars, even though he only has $22 in his pocket!
