Q&A With… SNL‘s Andy Samberg
By Susan L. Hornik

Women who have seen you on Saturday Night Live and now in the film Hot Rod say you have that sexy, geeky look.

Geeky is sexy?! Thank goodness for me, it’s the only way it’s going to happen for me!

What do you look for in a girl?

Definitely a sense of humor. If a girl doesn’t have one, she certainly won’t be interested in me!

Can she be funnier than you?!

Sure! I should be so lucky! Most are though!

It seems that guys always have a wingman in those funny scenes on SNL. Do you have one when you go out?

No—I’m not into three-ways!

You’ve been romantically linked with Natalie Portman. Are you really going out with her?

Pretty much every host that comes to the show we all sleep with, so it’s written into the contract when you get there! So by those standards, yes!

Just kidding, you know how it is—if you go anywhere with anyone, they want to say you are together. It’s a little weird. I’m all about protecting my personal life. But sometimes, you have to roll with it.

What was it like to do that sexy, mocking-the-80s’ video, D**k in a Box, with Justin Timberlake? Funny that it is now nominated for an Emmy! The ladies seemed to really go for it.

It was bizarre but definitely cool! A little bit terrifying, because it’s not common ground for comedians. Some people even mistook the word and thought we were saying something worse! That’s what happens when you bleep things, I guess.

If you were to give guys dating advice, what would you tell them?

I’m certainly not in any position to give dating advice!

Is it easier to pick up women now that people know who you are? Women seem to be charmed by funny guys.

I don’t really pick up women. But yes, I certainly hope so.

Is that sense of humor why you think you’re popular with the ladies?

Am I popular?!

Would you ever want to play a romantic lead in a comedy?

Well, while I’ve loved Adam Sandler, Mike Myers and John Krasinski doing that kind of genre, I don’t think it’s my scene.

Have you ever had a fan cross the line with you?!

I went to a White Stripes show and a girl said she would sleep with me if I got her in. And I told her, “Stop right there! Don’t you dare say that to anyone else!” Crazy. I think she was drunk though.
