The West Wing star reveals what’s tough about dating when you’re tall—and the surprising way her fiancé makes her feel special.

Through the years, your character on NBC’s The West Wing has not had much romantic luck. What’s up with that?

All of CJ’s lovers tend to spontaneously combust! I always thought Richard Schiff and I had something going. I would have liked that. And there were a couple of guest stars I wouldn’t have minded. I loved my storyline with Mark Harmon. He’s a very sexy man!

Being a tall woman, was it harder to date?

I think so, I never had a date till I was in college because I was taller—at least that’s what I think it was. I would always meet men that were shorter than me, and I think my being tall was a bit intimidating for them. And of course when you don’t feel comfortable with yourself it shows, no matter what your size is. But thankfully, I got over that. Now I even wear heels, which my guy loves!

Rumor has it you’re getting married. When will you tie the knot?

I think we’re finally going to do it this year! It’s been so difficult to plan it. It will be so nice to finally get married and take care of my man and my dog.

What takes more work, the man or the dog?!

The man. Dogs are incredibly uncomplicated and love you no matter what. Men take a little more work but it’s OK, it’s worth it in the end!

What romantic things do you and your fiancé do for each other?

You know what’s romantic? He puts my toothpaste on my toothbrush for me! He goes out and gets my gas, when I have a 6 a.m. call—he fills my car with gas while I shower!

How did you find a gem like that?!

I know. It took me a long time. He’s pretty special.
