The star of American Pie, Date Movie, and How I Met Your Mother reveals the romantic gestures she loves most.

In Date Movie, your character spoofs romantic movies like Shallow Hal, The Wedding Planner and Meet the Fockers in her quest to find true love. Have you found true love in your own life? |
Absolutely! My husband is my best friend. |
You wore a fat suit in the first few scenes of the movie. What did your husband say when he saw you in it? |
He said you are still beautiful to me! He thought I looked cute in it. But I was really surprised with the reaction of other people—men don’t look at you the same way, and it’s a very humbling experience. |
We see all kinds of adorable romantic gestures in this film. What does your husband (actor Alexis Denisof) do for you that’s sweet? |
Well, he doesn’t stand outside with a boom box on his head! (Remember John Cusack in Say Anything?) But he is a very sweet guy. He serves me breakfast in bed, and not just on Valentine’s Day. |
Do you and your hubby have a romantic song? |
It’s cheesy but we really love that Titanic song! |
Can you tell us what you’ve learned from past relationships? |
Well, it’s interesting—once I found my husband I thought about all the years when I had pined away for someone, and I thought, God, what was I thinking?! I was so stupid in the past! But obviously that’s hindsight. |
In the CBS romantic comedy, How I Met Your Mother, you and your fiancé argue but you always lovingly make up. Is it like that in your own life? |
Sure! Every couple argues at least a little about petty things. I don’t know any couple that doesn’t. But the important part is that we always make up! |
