The star of the new film Shadowboxer reveals the one thing he wishes women knew about men—and the surprising way he met his main squeeze.

In your new film Shadowboxer, there are some very sexy scenes of you making love in the woods. Does your wife get jealous?

Well, it’s so funny. She told me, “You know, baby, the hardest thing for me is to watch you being tortured or die on screen.” She doesn’t have a problem with the nudity. In fact, not to tell too much about the nightlife at my house, but when I do sexy movie scenes it’s, uh, motivating to her and me. You know what I’m saying? I guess I’m also saying that my work is my work and my sexual life is at home with my wife.

Back in your single days, were you good with the ladies?

Oh, I wasn’t shy. I was always a natural performer, so it was easy for me to be very outgoing with girls. But when it came to asking a girl out, I might get a bit flustered. It’s funny that the loudest, funniest guy can actually be a little shy and nervous underneath. Women should realize that they have to help us along a little bit and show they’re also interested.

How did you meet your wife?

I’ve been with my wife 18 years. We met in high school. I was still struggling in those years to get a girl, but I went to parties. There she was… I saw a girl with this great butt in very hot jeans. I said, “Oh, I gotta get that.”

Did you hit it off right away?

It was messy. She was dating my buddy and I was hooked up with her girlfriend. But the buddy and my future wife broke up. I broke up with the girlfriend. And we began to hang out. The rest was just magic, and we got married in 1993.

What have you learned about women now that you didn’t know earlier?

What do I know about women now? Women demand so much of us men. They want us to act a certain way, wear a certain thing and be a certain way. They’re disappointed every single day, but they should realize that most of us guys really are trying our best.
