Q&A With…Demi Moore
By Susan L. Hornik

In the film Bobby, we see characters dealing with infidelity and relationships that don’t work. What do you think is the message single people can learn from watching this film?

Emilio Estevez: That we could have used an Internet dating service! Where is Match.com when we needed it?!

Sharon Stone: I think we’ve come to a time when people have forgotten that character comes from working through difficult times. And that when you agree to stand by someone, a relationship grows. It becomes richer and deeper when you go through people’s failures—not just their successes. So often now, people just turn their back and walk away, when someone fails or changes. But really good relationships are built on acceptance and learning.

Demi Moore: It’s not about always getting it right, it’s about getting it wrong, but still having the ability to overcome. Those are the better opportunities. When a relationship works well, we actually give less thought to it, less energy is being put into it. But when it doesn’t work, we really have such an opportunity for growth.

Emilio, why do people stay in relationships that don’t work?

Emilio: People are comfortable in their discomfort. They stay because they think that’s what they deserve. I’ve been in some horrible, horrible relationships in this last decade. I was beating myself up professionally, so I found myself attracted to partners that brought me down rather than lifted me up.

Emilio, you and Demi — your former fiancé — are teamed up again in this film, as an estranged husband and his drunken diva wife. You have great chemistry together!

Demi: There was something very natural about being together again. As intense as our scenes were, we were laughing all day! The material was elevating and joyous. I am so proud that he trusted me to do this role. He’s very giving but not controlling. If I can find roles like this, I’d be working all the time!

Emilio: We were engaged, of course we have good chemistry!

Demi, what did you think of your hubby, Ashton Kutcher, playing the hippie drug-dealer in the film?!

Demi: Outside of the tobacco in his teeth and the dirty nails, he was kinda sexy!
