The star of Yours, Mine & Ours dishes on why opposites attract, what it’s like dating single moms, and the craziest kiss he’s received recently.
In Yours, Mine & Ours, you play a single dad who finds love with his high-school sweetheart (played by Rene Russo). We often hear that for single parents, dating can be difficult. Ever dated a single mom? |
I did date a few, yes. I just didn’t meet the right person, which is really what it’s all about—finding The One you want to be with. I ran into my high-school sweetheart too, but I haven’t seen her in decades. |
In the movie your characters fall in love, despite the fact that they’re completely different. Do you think opposites attract? |
I don’t think we have any control over who we fall in love with. It’s just destiny. Usually, when I fall in love, it’s kinda like, “Oh, no!” You kinda just know. |
Was it love at first sight for you and your wife? |
Yes, it really was! We met at a restaurant in Austin. She knew a friend of mine, and just happened to be there. |
After a brief but romantic reunion, your character decides impulsively to marry. Have you done anything crazy like that? |
Like, wake up in Vegas?! No, I don’t think I’ve ever done anything like that before. But in my parents’ generation, there are a lot of stories of couples back then who met and married the next day—and stayed together for the rest of their lives! Probably more of a percentage than today, that’s for sure. |
In one very funny scene in the movie, your pet pig kisses you. How was that?! |
Hey, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! I actually had to do that scene thirty-five times! They put some kind of substance in my mouth to get the pig to kiss me—but it sure didn’t taste good for me. |
Do you remember your first kiss with your wife? |
Sure, but I’m not telling you about it! |
