The star of the new movie The Honeymooners gabs about the one dating rule every woman should follow, finding love over fried chicken…and more.

You and Cedric the Entertainer star in the movie The Honeymooners—a modern take on a classic, beloved sitcom about a short-tempered husband and his long-suffering wife. What do you think makes their relationship tick?

There are a couple of things you need to know about Alice. One is that she’s smarter than Ralph; she’s always ahead of him. The other is he adores her, and she adores him. They fight like cats and dogs, but they love even harder. At the basis of their relationship is a friendship. That’s what keeps most relationships together. Everybody has their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, if you’re not friends, you’re not going to make it.

This fall, you can be seen as the sexy reporter sidekick on ABC’s new series The Night Stalker. Will there be any romance between you and star Stuart Townsend?

I think definitely later in the season. Stuart and I could have an alien baby!

You’ve played so many different kinds of romantic roles. What’s next—femme fatale?

Yes! Actually, I want to do a horror film where I don’t die and I could be part of the franchise. It would be great if the black person could live for once in a horror film.

What’s been the best date you’ve ever had?

Probably in 1999; it was my birthday. My husband proposed over a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Somewhere between the potato wedges, we found true love.

And the worst date?

I asked out who I thought was the best-looking guy in school to the junior prom. The fool got the chicken pox! It just doesn’t pay to be shallow. There I was taking what used to be the cutest guy, now covered in chicken pox scabs, to the prom—then he got hammered and danced on the table. I left alone.

Do you have any dating advice for women?

Don’t do anything you’d be embarrassed to tell your mother about, because it’s never worth it in the end.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for love?

If you have met the right person, you’ll do anything. There aren’t too many things I would consider crazy, because I’d do just about anything!

Hollywood-based journalist Susan Hornik would prefer sushi over KFC for her future dates, but for love, she might reconsider.
