The stars of You, Me and Dupree reveal how to get out of the doghouse and win a woman back—and when not to even bother.
Matt, in the romantic comedy You, Me and Dupree, your newly married character allows his free-spirited best friend Dupree (Owen Wilson) to stay on as a house guest with less than great results for the newlyweds. Has a similar situation ever happened in your own life?
Matt: Well, they say good neighbors make good fences, you know? This is clearly not something that Dupree lives by. We’ve all had a Dupree in our life—you know, people with real boundary problems!
And have you ever been a Dupree or otherwise annoyed the heck out of people?
Matt: I’m sure I’ve been that to somebody, but I was probably unaware of it! I have a tendency to like my music loud, and I’d say if I were a house guest, that might be something that bothers people. And my driving… I’ve been accused of not being the safest driver.
Owen: You know, I get criticized for getting on my BlackBerry, especially by my girlfriends. They’re like, “Oh, you’re more interested in that than you are in having a good conversation!” But I will say in my defense that I feel like I do write down good ideas for funny scenes and stuff. And sometimes, I’m on there just BS-ing.
