Swing Out Sister

Finding your true vocation in life often takes great courage, but don’t let fear hold you back from fulfilment.

The art of pendulum dowsing could be just the key you need to open up a brave new world.

Pendulum dowsing has been used for centuries as a form of divination. It’s often thought of as a way to amplify your own intuition, as the pendulum’s movement is believed to pick up on what’s already going on in your subconscious.

Another theory is that the message you receive fro your pendulum comes from your spirit guide or guardian angel, while some see it as way of plugging into the collective wisdom of the universe. Whichever argument people believe, most agree there are energies at work that make pendulum dowsing a powerful tool for suggesting solutions.

Other divination tools, such as dowsing rods, also respond to energy, and so can be used to search for water, oil and even gold.

The technique eventually spread across Europe, but by the end of the middle Ages, the practice was denounced as the work of the Devil. In 1659, dowsing was declared satanic and anyone found practicing it was tried as a witch.

Later, the power of pendulums, usually crystals suspended on chains, was harnessed to answer specific questions. The words ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ would be written on a cloth, and when the person holding the pendulum asked a question, the pendulum would swing in the direction of one of these answers.

Dowsing with a pendulum over the human body is also known as radiesthesia. It’s still used today by some alternative medical practitioners to detect energy imbalances in the body, particularly allergies, and to correct energy levels. It’s even considered an accurate way of determining the gender of unborn babies.
